8 Songs That Will Leave You Teary-Eyed At Your Own Wedding!

A bride goes through a myriad of emotions at her wedding day. On one side, she is elated to embrace a new journey, and on the other hand, she is leaving behind her family. The vidaai is probably the toughest part of a wedding. Bidding goodbye to your first hero and the last hugs and kisses are unforgettable. Amidst all the masti and celebration, vidaai songs can make a bride emotional at her own wedding. Bollywood has been churning out vidaai songs for a long time, starting with Babul Ki Duayen Leti Ja – from Neel Kamal. This gloomy ballad defined vidaais in the 70’s – ask your parents, we are sure they will recall stories. Remember Babul Jo Tumne Sikhaya, a touchy number from Hum Aapke Hain Kaun? We have several such tracks that can be played at the vidaai ceremony. Here’s our picks:

1. Dilbaro, Raazi:
Latest from the Bollywood circuit, every bride can relate to this track. The lyrics pretty much sum up the thoughts running in a bride’s mind and beautifully describes the bond between a father and a daughter.  “Help me cross this hurdle,” says the daughter to her beloved father. Composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and picturized on Alia Bhatt and Rajit Kapoor, we suggest this track should at the top your list.

2. Kabira Encore, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani
She has tears in her eyes but a brave smile – all at the same time. The encore version of Kabira is a track that uplifts the bride and at the same time reminds her of all the people she is going to miss at her new home. The pleasant rendition in Harshdeep and Arijit Singh’s voice is endearing and a classic vidaai piece.

3. Heer, Jab Tak Hain Jaan
When this track released in 2012, it played at every vidaai ceremony in the city. We are not kidding! Even though it is not a typical vidaai track, the melancholy of this track will move you to tears. With Katrina Kapoor looking like a dream and Shah Rukh Khan looking as charming as ever, this track by AR Rahman is a soulful rendition. The somber tune in the voice of Harshdeep Kaur will leave you heavyhearted.

4. Madhaniya, Neha Bhasin
This non-Bollywood track is originally a traditional Punjabi folk melody crooned by the legendary Musarrat Nazir. The piece displays the roller coaster of emotions that the family goes through at the time of a wedding. Have a little fam-moment with your family while this song running in the background.

5. Laadli, Raunaq
As part of the studio album, Raunaq: Conversation of Music and Poetry, this number is sung by Lata Mangeshkar, penned by Kapil Sibal, and composed by AR Rahman. The soul-stirring song is a heart touching story of a girl, a daughter, and her ambition. The song is a perfect example of how daughters will remain a daddy’s girl no matter how old they become. This song is sure to bring back some sweet memories. Cherish them and give each other a tight hug.

6. Maahi Ve, Kal Ho Naa Ho:
Some don’t want the vidaai to be all about crying and getting sentimental. This song is for those who fall into the ‘let’s-make-vidaai-less-heartbreaking’ category. Do a little thumka and jhumka, don’t go heavy on the tears, give your loved ones a tight hug, go back to dancing, and smile all along. Chanda mere chanda… we could sing along the whole day!

7. Ye Betiyaan, Na Tum Jaano Na Hum
Ye Betiyaan Toh Babul Ki Raniya Hai. Isn’t it true? A daughter has a special relationship with every member of the family and they will always be a queen! The sensitivity of the song, the relatable lyrics, and the tune will make the vidaai super special. Enjoy every moment of the wedding, even the vidaai, and this song makes that happen.

8. Kehta Hai Baabul Song, Baabul
We bet a tear will trickle down your cheek at least once while this song is on. The movie is equally emotional and heavy on the heart. This rendition sung by Richa Sharma is a tad slow and creates a perfect environment for the vidaai function to begin. We bet every father will feel like Amitabh Bachchan from the movie.
