Prital & Mayur

INSPIRATION

The inspiration for our wedding came from my wedding attire. My wedding outfit had floral motifs, greenery, pastel colours, mixed in with the bold red which I decided to incorporate into our wedding decor. We went with a subtle garden theme for both events to tie everything together. One of the most personal elements I wore during the wedding was the hand garland of white flowers, representing Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, that cascaded down my arm. After being diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma one month before our first wedding date (June 2016), it was a way for me to show that even though I had overcome the cancer, the journey will always be part of me. I also wore purple lipstick and a purple bindi which is the colour of the ribbon associated with Hodgkins Lymphoma to the reception. My mehndi artist incorporated a ribbon into the design to symbolize my cancer treatment. For Mayur, being a sports fanatic, our caketress incorporated the Toronto Raptors and The Blue Jays logos onto the cake. Mayur also got Kyle Lowry’s jersey stitched into the inside lining of his reception suit jacket. For the reception we wanted to feel playful, glamorous, and unique.

SHE SAID

The most memorable part of our wedding was when I was walking down the aisle towards the mandap.  I was to eager to see my friend’s and family’s reaction when they saw me for the first time as a bride. Because I had lost majority of my hair during my treatment, nobody expected me to look like a traditional Indian bride. I was so excited to show them that I looked exactly how I had envisioned myself looking on that day, thanks to the hard work and creativity of my beauty team. To my astonishment, everyone started cheering as I walked, smiling, down the aisle. The cheering touched my heart and made me feel even more confident. Mayur had no idea about how I would look on this day either. Once I reached mandap the pundit removed the curtain separating us. Mayur’s reaction was an epic, amazed and shocked all at once. When the cheering and smiles died down, he looked at me and smiled, nodded his head and wiped a tear or two.

HE SAID

The most memorable part of the wedding was seeing Prital at the mandap. Not only because I had no idea how she would look as a bride but also because I’ve been waiting 10 years to finally marry her (no joke, we’ve been dating for that long!). I think the extra year we had to wait for her to complete her treatment really made this whole wedding  process seem even longer, yet exciting. Seeing her at the mandap; I was just blown away. She looked exactly as I had always imagined she would. From her outfit, to her makeup and most importantly how her hair was done. I knew when I saw her beaming smile that I had made the right choice. Everyone was cheering as she entered, which also made me more anxious to finally see her at the mandap. Another highlight for me was her reception look. I knew she was going to stick to her natural hair without using any extentions but I wasn’t expecting her in a full Mohawk look with purple lipstick. She looked beautiful that evening.

TIPS & ADVICE

The biggest tip I have for future brides and grooms is to stick by each other no matter what. Things can go wrong really fast even when planning for a wedding or just living your daily life. Having being diagnosed with cancer a month before our first wedding date really made Mayur and I realize what matters on our special day and any day after that, is each other and our families. When things may go wrong prior to the wedding, wedding week or main events, keep in mind not to sweat the small things. In the end you are still going to have your fairytale celebration and marry the love of your life. The positive energy you both bring to your celebration will reflect onto your guests and family, which will make the whole celebration that much more fun and exciting. So stay happy and don’t sweat the small stuff.
