The Pre-Wedding Celebration Weekend : March 30th- April 1st, 2018
March 31st ,2018, the beautiful long weekend that just passed really set my wedding excitement into motion. I had a beautiful bridal shower and bachelorette all combined into one long weekend of celebrating. Since I had friends from all over Canada, I needed one weekend before the wedding where I could have my shower but also see them and build momentum and boy oh boy did the pre-wedding excitement begin!
Mix It Up- Break The Rules
I noticed a lot of brides; me included at first get caught up with “but is this how it’s supposed to be done”? Who actually decides or makes these rules? You need to go with your situation, your circumstance and pick what works best for you.
I did not want to have my friends travel 3 times before my wedding in May, by isolating my events. So instead I turned this past weekend into a big pre-wedding kickstart celebration. We had a beautiful welcome dinner on Friday, all the girls were able to just sit down and catch up at the lavishly beautiful “Piano Piano” restaurant in the heart of Toronto. There is something so nostalgic about sitting with all of your friends that you grew up with and just talking about the wedding that’s about to happen and creating such beautiful memories.
The entire weekend was about me and parts of my personality, while the welcome dinner and bachelorette was champagne themed; the shower celebrated my love for water and nature with an ocean themed bridal lunch. My friends and sister really made sure who I was shined through in the festivities of this past weekend.
Ocean Themed- Bridal Lunch
My shower was dream come true. We had an ocean inspired theme, with light beach music in the background, a rustic wooden setting in Canada’s favorite South Asian restaurant, The Host Fine Dining, Richmond Hill. Fifty – Five of our closest friends and family came together on this beautiful Saturday afternoon.
Details – Small details help your event come to life. As much as people say look at the overall picture, for me the smallest details help bring it all into a vision that was imagined. Our table settings had a mix of all things nature and ocean inspired, treasure chest, starfish and seashells galore, along with hints of mint blue, greenery , rustic burlap and some gold to bring out the glamour. Guests signed a “message in a bottle” & were given organic handmade henna candles in blue accents. My inspiration of the henna candle favors was that most of the guests attending would see me at my next function in May which was the Mehndhi day, so this was a nice precursor for then.
Small details like the games were printed on the ocean theme paper to compliment the invite, desserts were also seashell Belgian chocolates, white ocean cupcakes and a beautifully designed blue sea fresh cream cake.
I suggest all brides make the bridal shower about their personality, it’s about you. What is something that is close to your heart? A theme, a nature, a feeling a colour, something that relates to you.
My amazing fiancé came at the end to surprise me so we had fun teasing him with “can you guess your brides hand” game. Do not ask if he won.
The Bachelorette weekend – Why The Hype?
Everyone asked me where I was going for my bachelorette. At one point I remember feeling like I needed to travel to some exotic place on earth to make it memorable. Thank god I didn’t. Toronto is the city where I met my love and it has so much to offer. Why not celebrate it around here, as long as my friends were with me that is all that mattered. We spent the night in a cozy setting in Niagara, décor was out of this world with several treats and Champagne galore to celebrate. And the next day we ended the entire magical weekend with high tea at the Windsor arms. The details in the middle are hush hush you know… hahaha
There is just so much emotional fulfillment of spending a weekend with your closest friends and your sister.
Tip of the Week: Make your shower and bachelorette something related to your personality, these events are about you. Do not copy trends, remember this is not an event for the public. It needs to be something meaningful for you about you.
